Swedish electric trucking company Einride said it will deploy 500 Tesla Semis across North America for Amazon and other customers, and newly disclosed SEC filings show Amazon holds warrants for roughly 12 percent of Einride’s shares.

The deployment

The 500 trucks will serve freight corridors in California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, and Georgia, rolling out in phases over two years starting in September, according to GeekWire’s reporting. Einride is calling it the largest deployment of Tesla’s electric semi trucks anywhere to date.

The Amazon stake

Einride’s SEC filings, its first financial report since going public in June, show Amazon holding warrants for 25.2 million shares, about 12 percent of the company, that vest as Amazon buys freight services from Einride. Einride is forecasting 60 to 73 percent year-over-year revenue growth in the second half of the year, which it attributes largely to the Amazon relationship.

Why it matters

A warrant structure that vests as Amazon actually buys freight services, rather than a flat equity grant, ties Amazon’s ownership stake directly to how much it actually uses Einride, which is a more revealing signal of real commercial intent than a headline investment figure would be on its own. Einride’s own growth forecast leaning this heavily on one customer relationship is also worth sitting with: it’s a vote of confidence in the deal, but it means Einride’s near-term numbers are now largely a proxy for how much freight Amazon decides to route through electric trucking specifically, not a broad-based demand signal.

What to watch: whether Einride’s actual second-half revenue lands in the 60-73 percent range it’s forecasting, and how concentrated its customer base looks once that’s reported.
